I beg to differ, I can make it happen every single time. All I have to do is try to type something or click in the search box and it goes boom

Can't make it happen at all here.

@Drijfjacht: Seems as if the one problem is connected to the other. Here, I have working hotkeys and no browser crash. Maybe this problem occurs in connection with some AntiSpyware/virus scanner software. The keyboard hook could also be used to spy your passwords or any other keypresses you do. That's why some security softwares think, that it's malicious. Maybe it's blocked somehow?

Also check this dialog of your Vista:

If the second checkbox is enabled, you should try the first one, like I have.

I have the same option enabled as you do Knarf (and thanks for the German screenshot, made it /really/ easy to find ;)), do you have UAC enabled?
I use the windows firewall and windows defender with the basic settings, haven't touched them at all, and I use NOD Antivirus. I think it's quite unlikely that my antivirus would block hotkeys or cause errors in IE without so much as a popup saying "Hey! I gots me sum viruseys!" (yes, I have a texan virus scanner).

It's not unlikely at all...

UAC is disabled here.

As I thought, disabling UAC "fixes" this problem :)
It's hardly a fix though, as I wouldn't recommend everyone to turn UAC off..

When you say this I have a hunch you didn't give administrator privileges to WC3Banlist when UAC was on. Oh well, as long as it works for you.

Of course I did, that's the first thing I did when it wouldn't work on user privileges.

As far as I can see now it's like this:
User rights (default Vista rights) = no working banlist.
Admin rights = commands working, crashing IE while banlist is running and non-working hotkeys.
UAC off = everything working but less overall security for your system.

That can explain the following too:

He must've turned UAC off during his previous Windows session. Because UAC changes only take effect after a reboot, it must've seemed like the reboot fixed it :)

I don't get it, I got UAC on and my hotkeys and everything on WC3Banlist works fine. Although yes the IE does crap on me.

I think I managed to erase all problems that have to do with hotkey / UAC.

Windows Vista is really complex. The problem was, that the hook, which is loaded into every application, runs as non-administrator if loaded by the IE7. This makes 2 problems arise:
- the non-admin prog cannot send the hotkey to WC3Banlist, because vista doesn't allow messaging to admin progs if the other is not an admin prog (made the hotkeys not work, except WC3 is running as admin as well)
- the non-admin prog cannot use the shared memory which is needed for exchanging information about the context of the keypress (made IE7 crash)

Both should be fixed, so that now, you'll be able to run WC3Banlist as admin (still needed to make everything work ... DX-Hook, packet capturing and the hotkeys) and WC3 as non admin. The problems didn't occur with deactivated UAC, because all programs will run as admin in this mode. The mentioned 2 issues don't come to effect then.

Download the latest beta and try, please.

I just read a bit on that, it makes perfect sense in the idea of security! I will let everyone whom has PM'd me and make it a huge font in my guide. THANK YOU ALLMIGHTY KNARF.

I am so happy you found the time out of your amazingly busy days to help us.

Wait, do you actually use 64 bit Vista? It is both more unstable and about 10% slower than 32 bit believe it or not.

I've got 32 bit Vista only, and I won't buy the 64 bit version.

Indeed it is unwise to get the 64 bit version of Vista, and in general Vista at all right now. Wait for SP1 before you consider starting "the wow" : )
